American Economy Cartoons - 2 Oct 2010

Wonder along with the rest of America about how our economy is doing and where it's going.

From Denny: Cartoonists offer an incredible snapshot of opinion Americans voice about our economy. Clearly, no one is happy with the state of things. We all wonder how long it will take to get better. Well, the economists are privately talking it will take about 10 years or more, maybe as long as 15 to 20 years - and that it will never return to the high flying days of the previous Clinton years in the '90s.

To take into consideration when the times get hard is the effect upon the middle class mindset. What's already happening, as a result of greedy Big Banks breaking their contracts with credit card holders and exacting harsh penalties and excessive fees, is that people are getting off credit in America. People are paying cash. The benefit of paying cash is that you regain your privacy and make it difficult for Big Business to track your purchases and profile your spending habits - to sell to marketers. Yes, "the times they are a changing."

Koran Book Burning, September 11th Cartoons - 18 Sept 2010

Check out what the nation's cartoonists had to say about the Burn a Koran Day call from a Florida pastor who eventually backed down from his threat.

Jewish Comic Jon Stewart mocking the Florida Koran Book Burning Pastor

From Denny: It's amazing just how far hate will go to be destructive - whether it's Islamic terrorists or now, in Florida, Christian terrorists. Fortunately, the threat to burn 200 Koran books did not happen but it sure caused a huge international furor. Some good came out of this insanity: many moderates in Christianity, Judaism and Islam all banned together in solidarity denouncing this Florida pastor's hate and violence. All this craziness sure created a surreal atmosphere on the ninth anniversary of September 11.

Tea Party, Republican, Gay Marriage Cartoons - 14 Aug 2010

*** Check out the usual amusing rantings from the far-right-gone-over-the-edge-crazy.

From Denny: Some of these bigoted people really should take a look in the mirror when they are screaming and yelling their hate. Maybe if they saw just how really awful they looked they might reconsider their behavior and attitude.

Besides, it's quite telling what Jesus Christ never chose to speak about: homosexuality. His one rule was to love everyone - even when you don't agree with them, their views or their life styles. Besides, if you are truly a person of faith you have enough sense to understand that what a person is today may change and grow over time. So give your fellow man some time and personal space to grow - and quit crowding them.

Just what are they so scared about anyway? Like gays are going to take over the world? Come on. Gay have and always will be a small minority. Why so nasty to not allow fellow human beings to have their civil rights? No one said your religion had to approve of the life style.

All this means is that gays get the same rights as any one else to be first class citizens in their own country. Why is that such a bad thing? Besides, gays have been in the world since time began and probably will be here after time stops. OK, maybe we should consult the Mayans on that one, because maybe none of us will be here - for any of this fussing and cussing to matter. :)

Here's how the Republicans regard the new Justice Elena Kagan - just because she is a Democrat and thoughtful thinker. They should be cartooning the Republican Justices in this manner because they are the ones who got behind Bush and pushed trillions of dollars of debt onto American taxpayers:

Cartoons: America and Immigration - 17 July 2010

*** Check out the latest from the nation's cartoonists with links to more cartoon posts from this week!

Found this funny photo over at a bizarro blog from the loony tunes Tea Party crowd

From Denny: Illegal immigration is a hot button issue with the border states. They are overrun with Mexican drug cartels who are so violent they carry their gun fights across the American border. The drug cartels find it "fashionable" to kidnap and kill Americans now. They put out kill contracts on American police officers. It's insane.

Caught up in the middle are the Mexican poor who scrambled across the border years ago, have worked quietly in America, and didn't cause any trouble. They are also under paid, without health insurance, living in fear of being deported. Somehow, America's lawmakers have to get serious about weeding out the regular people from the one million man army drug gangs who continue to plague police here and in Mexico.

At some point, those who have been in America as long as several years need some kind of path to citizenship so they can raise their heads and come out of the shadows. Living in fear is no way to live. Not for them or for American citizens plagued by drug cartels moving into America, thinking they can establish themselves as easily here as they have in Mexico.
